The Academy’s innovative coaching approach provides each athlete with consistent, individualized instruction.

Individual Improvement

The goal of our soccer program is to meet every single player where she is and challenge her to work harder, faster, and with more precision on the ball—so that she develops and returns home to contribute to her team with more ability and passion.

Athletes receive ongoing instruction and frequent feedback from the 20+ qualified coaches who are on the field at every session. Athletes have a ball at their feet during a large part of every session and get hundreds, and, sometimes, thousands of touches a day. Coaches focus on fundamentals like ball control, passing, shooting, and first touch; as well as more advanced attacking and defending techniques. Regardless of ability, every player is pushed to the edge of her game so she improves as much as possible.

Development through Meaningful Relationships

At the beginning of the week, all athletes are placed into one of our four training groups. Each training group of approximately 30-40 players works with the same 4-5 coaches throughout the week. These coaches, led by a Master Coach, provide each player with consistent instruction and individualized skill development. Both coaches and players benefit from getting to know one another, and they form meaningful relationships, which, combined with an elite training environment, yield extraordinary results. Indeed, 98% of last summer’s BSA athletes reported improvement in their soccer.

Team Play

Our athletes also focus on game-specific training and competitive play. We schedule two fun and exciting tournaments and optional scrimmages during which teams, which may include goalkeepers, work on movement off the ball and strategic play.

Soccer Program Triptych - Mental SkillsMental Skills Training

Beyond technical and tactical development, Athletes engage in daily mental skills training—both on the field and in dedicated sessions off the field. All Academy staff are trained to attend to the mental, social, and psychological needs of each athlete; and incorporate mental skills topics during training sessions and in debrief discussion at the end of training sessions. Girls record and reflect on what they’ve learned in their Athlete Journals. The Academy’s unique Mental Skills curriculum is focused around the 4 C’s:

  • Comfort: facing challenges and adversity; as well as pushing outside of one’s comfort zone
  • Care: physical and mental self-care; as well as care and respect for teammates and coaches
  • Coachability: owning your improvement individually; as well as learning from coaches and teammates
  • Contribution: recognizing your role on a team; as well as working with your team to achieve its goals

Soccer Program - GKGoalkeeper Track

The Goalkeeper Track is offered to both new and experienced goalkeepers at every session. Goalkeepers step away from their training group for at least one, 45-minute keeper-specific training session each day. During these sessions, goalkeepers work with our dedicated keeper staff on techniques like positioning, catching, diving and distribution. Goalkeepers train as field players during all other soccer sessions to develop necessary foot skills. Goalkeepers and field players are mixed in the cabins, at mealtimes, and during elective activities. To train as a goalkeeper at the Academy this summer, indicate “Goalkeeping Track” on your Camper Application.

Soccer Program - Private TrainingPrivate Training

Athletes who want more instruction on a specific skill can sign up for a 1-hour Private Training sessions for an additional fee of  $125 per session. Private trainings are led by a Master or Head Coach and take place during elective periods so as not to conflict  with regularly-scheduled soccer sessions, meals, rest times or special events.  Athletes registered for private training specify the focus of their training during Camper Orientation on Arrival Day.  Athletes and their parents receive written and verbal feedback on Departure Day.

Soccer Program for Multiple Session Athletes

Athletes who wish to attend multiple sessions at the Academy are encouraged to do so.  Our soccer program is designed to introduce new training topics, games, activities, and coaches to each session, so girls attending 2 or more sessions enjoy a deep, varied and immersive soccer experience.
