Our Elective Staff provides fun and relaxing downtime periods that allow our athletes to explore new activities, replenish their energy, and just be kids!
From the waterfront to the hiking trails, each member or our Elective Staff possesses an expertise and passion in the area they lead. Most of our Elective Staff come to us with at least 2 years of teaching experience in their field and all have required certifications. They are proven leaders and enthusiastic about bringing their skills to the Academy. Electives offered in each session may vary but typically include the following:
Our Waterfront Director manages a team of Lifeguards, as well as a Canoeing Instructor and a Fishing Instructor. We also offer Stand-Up Paddle Boarding. The Waterfront Staff work together to ensure that our beautiful private lakefront is a safe and fun place. All waterfront staff are certified by the Red Cross so that as a camp, we meet American Camp Association accreditation standards.
Fitness & Wellness
BSA athletes have the opportunity to improve their flexibility, strength, balance, and coordination with our Yoga Instructor. They can also practice preparing healthy dishes with our Cooking Instructor, or perfect their soccer juggling and fancy-footwork with our Soccer Elective Specialist.
Camp Games & Sports
After coming off the soccer field, our athletes typically need a break to relax and reboot. For some, that means following the Camp Games Instructor to the Rec Deck to play ping-pong, four-square or Gaga. Or perhaps it means challenging their friends to a game of soccer-tennis or H.O.R.S.E. on our basketball court.
Campers who are ready to embrace all the Berkshires have to offer, can join our Outdoor Adventure Instructor on a leisurely hike around the lake, or to the nearby waterfall. Along the way, the focus may be to practice orienteering, learn about native flora and fauna, or build a campfire.
Our creative elective programs are some of our most popular. Our Arts & Crafts Instructor offers a different project each period, along with materials for friendship bracelets, lanyard, and loom. Our Dance Instructor choreographs routines with the campers’ help to all styles of music, and the Theater Instructor challenges her campers with fun theater games, improv scenarios, and comedy routines.
