TeamFirst Soccer Academy Teams Up With Berkshire Soccer Academy!
Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, and Tisha Venturini Hoch are TeamFirst. These US Women’s National Team legends coach at the Berkshire Soccer Academy. Each summer they offer a world-class, 1-week overnight soccer camp experience.
The trio leads 8 on-field training sessions, participates in our closing ceremony Q&A. They sign autographs and take a photo with each athlete. This program is the only one to offer world-class soccer coaching in an overnight camp environment!
The coaching from TeamFirst Soccer Academy doesn’t end on the field. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend the Q&A session with TeamFirst, where they can learn tips to help their young athletes thrive on and off the field, and how to become supportive and encouraging soccer parents.
Mia Hamm’s Advice to Soccer Parents
In one recent session, two-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time FIFA Women’s World Cup champion Mia Hamm talked about how youth soccer parents should avoid post-game negativity for the sake of their players.
“A lot of the times, the conversations are like, ‘Well you guys would have won if Susie had just passed you the ball,’ and I know as a parent, all you’re trying to do is make them feel better,” Mia explained. “But now you’re complicating that conversation with them because now you’re basically pitting them against one of their teammates.”
Mia feels that this sort of negativity can have longstanding consequences for youth soccer players in other aspects of their lives.
“As they get older, they start looking for these outs themselves. And so rather than trying to comfort them by giving them excuses or blaming it on someone else, just leave it.”
Mia Hamm’s advice to soccer parents stems from her own experiences growing up as one of six children, her interests in different sports, and the way her parents nurtured her athleticism.
