Our “Away From Home Guide” helps athletes prepare for camp, and eases transition and separation issues. In early-June, before the beginning of the camp season, we invite newly enrolled and prospective families to visit and tour camp, meet staff and ask questions. Upon arriving at camp for their session, play fun ice-breaker games, meet cabin-mates, cabin counselors and residential life leaders and get situated in their cabins. The first day’s action-packed schedule, which includes a fun scrimmage, an all-camp evening activity and the opening campfire, adds to the warm welcome. We understand that homesickness is natural and often occurs with both new and veteran campers. We prepare and train our staff to handle homesickness and have had great success helping many athletes navigate and overcome this feeling and enjoy a fantastic Berky experience.

Covid-Related FAQ's

A: All tuition and fees are fully refundable (less a $150 application fee) before March 1, 2023. Cancellations after that date are not refundable. To protect your investment in the event that you need to cancel for ANY reason, including a reason related to Covid, you can elect to participate in our Camper Assurance Program (“CAP”).  If you purchase CAP (cost is $150/session) and cancel, your entire investment will be returned either in cash or as credit toward a future camp session for your child or a sibling. For more information on CAP, view the Terms and Conditions of the Camper Application (Section 1b).

A: Maintaining the health and safety of our community is at the core of what we do, and we believe requiring vaccines will serve this purpose. Not only will a vaccinated camp safeguard health, it will also enable us to run with minimal restrictions. For Summer 2022, the Academy will follow the US Centers for Disease Control Covid vaccination recommendations in effect as of the start of camp. The CDC currently recommends that those 5 years of age and older be “up to date” on their Covid vaccines.

  • 5–11 year olds who receive two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine 21 days apart are considered “up to date” 2 weeks after their second vaccine dose.
  • 12-17 year olds are considered up to date if they receive two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine and receive a booster dose at least 5 months after the second vaccine dose.
  • Staff are considered up to date if they receive two doses of the Pfizer/BioNTech or Moderna vaccine or one dose of Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen vaccine and receive a booster dose at least 5 months after their last vaccine.
  • Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna (COVID-19 mRNA vaccines) are preferred.
  • Staff members and 12-17 year old campers who arrive at the Academy less than five months after the date of the last vaccine are considered “up to date” without a booster.

We are carefully tracing the CDC’s recommendations and will adjust our vaccination requirements accordingly. There will be no religious or medical exemptions to its vaccination policy.

*We have not yet completed a comprehensive, Summer 2023 Covid response plan. We will provide our updated 2023 plan once it is available.

A: *We have not yet completed a comprehensive, Summer 2023 Covid response plan. Our 2023 plan will certainly be different than 2022 and, likely less restrictive. We will provide our updated 2023 plan once it is available.

A: There is no evidence that the vaccine will trigger a positive rapid test result. All evidence is to the contrary. mRNA-based vaccines will not cause a Covid-19 PCR test or a rapid antigen test to be positive. The proteins produced following vaccination are not expressed in the respiratory (i.e., nasal) tract, which is sampled for Covid-19 PCR or antigen testing.

A: Although our policy says that there are no refunds within 7 days of a session, we typically refund tuition pro-rata for any camper who has to leave due to injury. The same policy would apply if a camper tests positive while at camp and needs to return home. We will return her tuition on a pro-rata basis.
