A typical day for a camper at the Academy may include a cruise on one our Stand-Up-Paddleboards around the lake, an outdoor yoga class, two dynamic soccer sessions, and a scavenger hunt around camp. Simply put, campers are extremely active at camp. We think intentional meals are an imperative tool to support our campers’ strong, growing bodies.
During mealtime at the Academy, a variety of fresh items are available to promote health-full choices (including gluten free and vegetarian options). Each day, Academy campers and staff enjoy four meals together in our dining hall overlooking Larkum Lake and the Berkshire forest.
Camper surveys consistently rank our camp food as excellent. Here is what the campers are saying:
“The food was amazing and so good after working hard on the fields.”
“Camp has a great kitchen staff. Yum!”
“The food was awesome!”
“I discovered that I actually like spinach!”
What makes camp food good? Options. At any given meal, campers have the option of a home-style hot meal, a fresh salad bar, a pasta bar, and a bread bar. Just like S’mores, everyone builds their meals a little differently: a burnt ‘mallow, extra chocolate, gluten free, a barely warmed marshmallow (raw style!). We think our job at camp is to make sure these vital ingredients are available.
